I find that whatever Flickr does to resize these pictures for their site seems to darken them more than a little. Not sure why.

When you have an iguana as the subject matter, the photo just can't be bad!

I have read before that Flickr will actually adjust your brightness and/or colour settings when you upload a photo. Something to do with the fact that the average Flickr user with a compact camera doesn't make adjustments to his/her photos---so Flickr makes marginal changes for you. :|
It might be worth investigating, but that's just what I have heard.
